SNP Leader John Swinney MSP launched his party鈥檚 manifesto 鈥淥n Scotland鈥檚 Side鈥� at an event in Glasgow. In his speech, he promised 鈥渁ction on the climate, 鈥渁 determination to eradicate child poverty鈥� and an 鈥渦nrivalled cost of living package鈥�. The manifesto puts forward proposals to cap the price of food essentials like bread, milk and eggs, the creation of a new housing agency, and simplification of the income tax system.
Economy
- Ensure a majority of Scots pay less income tax than they would elsewhere in the UK, with no increases to bands or rates.
- Introduce the 鈥榤ansion tax鈥� on properties over 拢1 million and 拢2 million from 2028. (NB This was announced in the January 2026 budget and does not represent new policy).
