(AcadMathSci) has appointed IFoA President Paul Sweeting and IFoA Fellow and Professor of Actuarial Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University, Andrew Cairns, as Fellows.
They are part of the announced by AcadMathSci today (Thursday, 29 January).
The Academy says this group of new Fellows has been recognised for being leaders in their fields, through fundamental discoveries, exceptional work in education, or driving the application of mathematics across society as part of our critical national infrastructure.
Paul Sweeting, IFoA President, said: 鈥淚 am honoured to be named in this inaugural group of Fellows at the Academy for Mathematical Sciences. It is great to be involved with an organisation whose values, related to acting in the public interest and providing expertise on some of society鈥檚 biggest challenges, are so closely aligned to those of the IFoA. I look forward to working with other Fellows, all experts in their fields, and to champion the relevance and importance of mathematics to problem solving and critical thinking.鈥
