A big issue facing society is the level of retirement savings and other sources of income available to pensioners who are not members of defined benefit pension schemes. This could include the self-employed, saving through personal pensions, or members of occupational DC schemes, including trust-based DC pension schemes.

The focus of this working party is on the products and investments offered by life insurance companies, trust-based DC pension schemes, and the tools that might be developed by actuaries within these companies and schemes to project and socialise issues around pensions adequacy at retirement.

This is a cross-practice research topic, led by the life practice area but with active participation of pensions as well as finance and investment practices. As such, we are recruiting for volunteers with experience in pensions, DC retirement saving or related fields, including trust-based DC pension schemes: 

• Chair – ideally from a life insurance background
• Deputy Chair and members – from all three practice areas, and preferably experience of, pensions and DC adequacy (including trust-based DC schemes).

We welcome applications from academics as well as practitioners.

Time commitment

The time commitment varies but will be around 4 hours per month. This includes regular meetings and research work outside of meetings.
