Join us for this inspiring event with our esteemed speakers, David Butcher and Richard Galbraith, to explore how mindfulness can make a difference to actuarial effectiveness. Richard is a fellow of the IFoA, past member of the IFoA Council, with various senior roles in the Insurance sector, as well as a coach and mindfulness practitioner. David is a mindfulness specialist, as well as having extensive governance experience in the pensions and investment industry.
Richard Galbraith is a Fellow of the IFoA with over 20 years’ experience across various disciplines, with a focus on risk management. Over the past decade he has been a senior volunteer and advocate for the actuarial profession, being a member of the IFoA Council and taking leadership roles in the IAA. He enjoys bringing a focus of professionalism and ethics to his roles and is a qualified coach and mindfulness practitioner. He is Director of Enterprise Risk Management, Europe for Canada Life Group, based in London.
David has more than 40 years’ experience in the pensions and investment industry. He has been a Chief Executive Officer three times including at Invesco Perpetual Pensions and both the retail and intermediary divisions of Flemings/Save & Prosper, now part of J P Morgan Asset Management.
He has substantial governance experience having served on 16 different boards over 30 years including as a Non-Executive Director of BlackRock Pensions, a Trustee Director of the Legal & General Master Trust, and both a Trustee of the Master Trust and Member of the Independent Governance Committee at Scottish Widows. He is also a Member of the Advisory Board of the Fund Boards Council.
David is a mindfulness specialist and has been practising mindfulness for over 35 years.
Chair
At the IFoA, Sophie is Deputy Chair of the Risk Management Board and Chair of the Committee for Lifelong Learning in Risk Management, as well as member of the Designated Professional Body Board. She is also a member of the Audit, Risk and Investment Committee at Engineering UK.
Sophie has expertise in business strategy and risk oversight in the financial services sector. She has held senior roles at international investment banks BNP Paribas, JP Morgan, and ABN Amro over 25 years. She has led global process improvement projects, collaborating with multicultural teams to improve risk management and business performance.
As a risk and strategy advisor, Sophie has mainly focused on the key topics of governance and risk oversight, digitalisation and cognitive diversity and inclusion. She is a member of various NED networks, including: BDO Financial Services NED, Nurole+ & Women on Boards UK, as well as London Business School leadership forums as an MBA alumna.
